Week #4
Conversion...
I chose to focus my blog topic on chapter 9; the widespread conversion to Islam. In the four centuries after the death of Muhammad, millions individuals within the Arab Empire found their identity bound with a belief in Allah and the message of his prophet.
In Persia for example, about 80% of the population had made the transition to Muslim religious identity. In this specific regions, converts to Islam gradually abandoned their language and adopted to Arabic. In Arab or Persia, by contrast, Arab conquest did not involve cultural adaptation and because of this, farsi flourished.
Conversion was not an automatic or easy process. It took years and constant sacrifice.
